An Open Letter to the Chief Minister of West Bengal

Madam,

Last week many among us who signed here sent an open appeal to you requesting you to personally initiate the process of opening a dialogue with the Maoists as that, in our opinion, was the only way out to resolve differences with those who are the sons and daughters of our soil, and not our enemies. We also emphasized that the issue was not at all a law-and-order problem, but rooted in socio-economic deprivation and hence deserved a totally different kind of solution.

PEOPLES’ ARTIST JEETAN DEMANDS JUSTICE!

The one who gave cultural expression to the pain and anguish of the working people and their struggles... who moved around with his cultural troupe from the fields, factories and mines to the villages, suburbs, and cities singing songs on peoples' culture... he who rekindled the hopes of Hul-Ulgulan -rebellion against exploitation- for the rights over Jal-Jangal-Zameen and life among the oppressed and discriminated adivasis and the labouring people... he who filled the hearts of the people, plundered and deceived by the government, with a craving for social transformation to reclaim the right to a life of dignity, land and wellbeing... one who became the lyrical consciousness of the struggle to build a new society and a new power, the struggle of light against darkness, of the hungry against hunger...

Condemn the Illegal Detention and Intimidation of Civil Rights Activists by the Lawless Kerala Police!

Once again, yet another act of impunity of the supposed guardians of law. This time it is not in the adivasi regions of Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Jharkhand, Jangal Mahal etc. This time it is in the state of Kerala where there is already a climate of deliberate mass hysteria created by the state ably supported by a jingoist, conniving media.

To The Chief Minster, Government of West Bengal

Madam,

For several years at a stretch the people of Jungle Mahal in West Bengal have been suffering persecution, humiliation and indignities in the hands of the state forces and armed bullies financed by the ruling parties. Gurusharanji—In Lieu of a Homage

The most beautiful thing for those who have fought a whole life is to come to the end and say; we believed in people and life, and the people never let us down. -- Otto Rene Castillo

gursharan-bhaa-ji-manna-singhIt is with immense grief that the Committee for the Release of Political Prisoners (CRPP) would share the demise of Gurusharan Singh. Apart from all other things which many of the readers might already know about him, he was for us, at CRPP, the honorary president of the committee, a spirited fighter who was always a source of strength and support. What was so disarming about Gurusharanji was his unflinching commitment to the people that too, to the oppressed, discriminated and exploited.
